Renewi, the international waste-to-product company, is taking an important step towards a more sustainable fleet of vehicles. On Monday 11 April, this fully electric refuse collection vehicle: a Geesink GPM IV body on DAF 6×2 CF Electric entered service at Renewi. It is the first DAF FAN CF Electric with a rear loader body in the Netherlands. Lucas Willems, Fleet Sales Manager at DAF Trucks N.V. has handed over the vehicle to Marc den Hartog, Managing Director Renewi Netherlands.
“The DAF CF is the best solution for our logistics operation,” says Den Hartog. “We already operate many vehicles like this for waste collection services. An electrically powered version is very interesting. It makes our fleet more sustainable, but it is also a demand from our clients. More and more municipalities require electric vehicles for the collection of household waste or at least ask for a CO2 neutral solution. Therefore, we expect to operate more electric RCVs in the near future.”
Renewi uses the CF Electric in the Rotterdam region. The average range of 200 km is sufficient for waste collections in urban areas. Due to the central collection points, low speed and regeneration when braking, the capacity of the battery pack can be optimally used. Charging the battery takes 75 minutes using a charging station with a capacity of 250 kilowatts.
Modified, short wheelbase specific for rear loader
The DAF FAN CF Electric has a modified, short wheelbase for the GPM IV body. Since last year, the electrically powered CF features a more powerful 350 kWh battery pack, which is also considerably lighter than the previous generation. This is a reduction of 700 kg. Partly because of this, the net loading capacity of the Geesink body (GVW 28 tons) is 10,000 kg.
Lucas Willems: “GeesinkNorba uses the very energy-efficient LI-ON Power Pro E-PTO to power the rear loader and the compaction mechanism. The Li-On Power Pro E-PTO only needs about 1.5 kWh per 1,000 kg of waste, which is great.” Renewi gives high priority to reducing its ecological footprint and preparing its fleet for the upcoming environmental zones in the Dutch city centre.
Recycling of waste for raw materials and energy
Sustainability is one of the core values of Renewi. 89% Of the processed waste gets a second life as raw material or energy saving a considerable amount of CO2. We congratulate the team of Renewi with this milestone!
